Musée et sites de Saint-Romain-en-Gal- Vienne

Visitors can explore extensive archeological ruins & hear how people lived in Ancient Roman times.

The art of living is 2,000 years old

Unique museum of the Rhône department, the Museum and Archaeological Site of Saint-Romain-en-Gal - Vienne represents a strategic pole of Roman archeology, 30 km south of Lyon, between Mediterranean and Burgundy on the right bank of the Rhone . The listed site offers to the visitor on more than 3 hectares, the restored remains of the residential and commercial quarter of the 1st and 4th centuries AD of the ancient Vienna, then capital of a vast territory covering the Dauphiné and the Savoy. The museum's modern architecture, built on one of the most important archaeological sites in France, reveals unique collections of refined Roman houses and transported the visitor 2,000 years ago to one of the richest cities in Gaul Roman. Recognized on an international scale, the Museum now has a modern image that combines its archaeological anchorage with its resonance with the contemporary world, developed around the "Art of living" from ancient Gaul to today, thanks to a Programming of exhibitions, events and cultural events inviting scientists, archaeologists, visual artists, musicians and publics to revisit this exceptional heritage.

Closely linked to the archaeological site and the remains discovered 50 years ago, the Museum celebrated the 20th anniversary of its creation in October 2016.
