Summary

[edit]
Description
English: The former Olympia Hotel in Wenatchee, WA. The site was originally occupied by a 2-story brick building on the northern half of the lot dating to 1902, known as the Howard Hotel and a 2-story wooden building on the corner occupied by the Olympia Saloon, operated by James M. Duffy. After a fire in August 1907 destroyed the saloon and damaged the brick hotel, property owner John Durieux proposed replacing both structures with a 3-story brick building, which had already been in the works prior to the fire. Instead he sold the property to Jacob H. Miller and Leopold Schmidt who proceeded with the building's construction and completed it by the end of the year. They would lease the entire building (Excluding the ground floor of the earlier brick building, occupied by the Toggery) to Duffy, who would open a new Olympia Saloon and operate the hotel named after it. The building once featured a cornice with a large Colonial-styled pediment and the original white pressed brick and Tenino sandstone trimmings have been concealed by layers of paint since the 1950s.
