| Description |
Olivia Zenor Born 5th April 1895 in Zenorville Iowa, father, George Zenor. Olivia was a stage performer with the company of Panamanian stage magician Li-Ho-Chang from about 1916. Typed on her 1920 passport application is the following: “Note: Applicant states that the company in which she is engaged does not open in Madrid until the 29th, and that she desires to take advantage of the intervening period to make a trip to England and France to renew her wardrobe, and make professional purchases.” Typed on her 1923 passport application is the following: “ Applicant states that she obtained a divorce form her former husband, Otto H. Grassell, at Key West, Fla., in July, 1920, name of court not known.” Olivia may have married her boss, the magician Li-Ho-Chang because in 1928 the NY Passenger Lists show her travelling alone from Nicaragua to New York as Olivia Zenor de Pablo, a married woman. Her 1923 passport application mentions “Juan J. Pablo, proprietor, Li-Ho-Chang Company.” The top she is wearing in this shot is unusual for photos of the time. The looseness and casualness, not to mention the evident lack of any foundation garments, seem much more in keeping with the current day. On closer examination, there is some embroidery on the sleeves which makes me think it's a type of peasant blouse. |
