English: Old warehouse, Hwllfordd/Haverfordwest The remaining warehouses and the anchor on the old town quay recall the days when Haverfordwest was a significant trading port with seagoing vessels moving up and down the Cleddau via Milford Haven. Exports were mainly oats and butter, with a small quantity of leather and bark, the imports chiefly groceries and manufactured goods as well as coal brought in by water from Newport,Mon. and from Liverpool. The port's commercial prosperity declined following the arrival of the railway in 1853. |
