| Description |
English: Old sea defences, Seasalter. This bank forms part of old sea defences for Seasalter Levels which were drained and protected from the sea as long ago as 1325. The ground slopes up from the water a little more steeply at this point than it does further west and there is no other sea defence north (left) of here as there is further west. The sea flooded the marsh in the storms of January 1953, since when a lot of building has taken place both sides of the Faversham Road west of Seasalter, some of it substantial affairs of brick, others little more than beach huts on wooden stilts. In the distance, beyond the holiday caravan park, lies Whitstable. |
