Description |
Originally known as Trinity Church, Holy Trinity Church is the earliest surviving Anglican Church building in South Australia, and one of Adelaide's oldest standing structures. The foundation stone of the permanent building was laid by Capt John Hindmarsh, South Australia's first governor, on 26 January 1838. The church was rebuilt in 1845. It served as the cathedral of the diocese of Adelaide from 1847 until first Christ Church North Adelaide and then St Peter's Cathedral were opened. It was significantly extended in 1888-9, when it was transformed to its existing Victorian Gothic style. |
