Summary
[edit]DescriptionOld railway station, Longstanton (1) (geograph 6821100).jpg |
English: Old railway station, Longstanton (1) Longstanton station saw its last passengers in October 1970 with goods trains using the line until 1992. It was generally referred to as 'Long Stanton' in railway days. Since August 2011 the line to St Ives has formed the route of the Cambridgeshire Guided Busway. The station building & the station master's house are now a private residence named 'Gresley House' - a reference to Sir Nigel Gresley, Chief Mechanical Engineer of the Great Northern Rly & then the London North Eastern Rly, who was responsible for such iconic locomotices as 'Flying Scotsman' & 'Mallard'. |
