Title
English: Old prospector in front of his driftwood house, Nome, ca. 1905
Description
English: No trees grow naturally in Nome. Residents had to salvage driftwood from nearby beaches or rivers, or depend on wood and lumber shipped in from Outside. This photo, taken in Nome sometime between 1902 and 1908 shows an old prospector sitting in front of his driftwood cabin. His firewood is neatly stacked by the wall.
