[edit]DescriptionOld pit workings hidden by foliage - geograph.org.uk - 888931.jpg |
English: Old pit workings hidden by foliage According to the 1855 OS map this is the site of the Stanhope Silkstone Main Colliery. In the winter the earth mounds are clearly visible. A dismantled railway track leaves this site travelling west before turning south and crossing Thurgoland Hall Lane to the east of Pinfold Lane. It crossed the A629 to the east of Thurgoland before joining the Manchester/ Sheffield (Woodhead) Line. |
