Summary

[edit]
This is a photo of listed building number
19991.
Description
English: First Aberdeen bus 312 (reg. NRS 312W), a 1981 Leyland Atlantean AN68 double-decker with Alexander AL-Type bodywork, pictured in Union Street, Aberdeen, with the contrasting architecture of a 1960s building alongside the granite classical Music Hall with its Ionic columns as a backdrop. It wears a special livery applied for the company's centenary celebrations, having been founded in 1898 as Aberdeen Corporation Tramways, before becoming Aberdeen Corporation Transport Department, Grampian Regional Transport, First Grampian and finally in this image, First Aberdeen. Accompanying prominent 100 years of Public Transport wording is a graphic (blurred for copyright reasons) with the message Grampian Transport Through The Ages above it. The graphic depicts a tram, an early single deck half cab motor bus, and the unique bus No. 1 (reg. K1 GRT), a 1992 Alexander bodied Mercedes-Benz O405G artic, with blinds set for route 22 to the city centre. Similar bus 313 (NRS 313W) was also given a special centenary livery, albeit much simpler and without any mural. Behind 312 is a Mercedes, probably a single-decker but potentially No. 1, which was still with the company by this time. While First Aberdeen, as the founder company of First Group plc, would grow to become one of the biggest transport groups in the UK, slowly adopting a corporate livery from 1998 onwards, in front of 312 is a Stagecoach Bluebird minibus, already in the first version of the corporate colours of the already rapidly expanding Stagecoach Group, one of its fiercest competitors in the ensuing rivalry for the title of biggest transport operator in the country.
