Summary
[edit]DescriptionOld White Rock Hospital, White Rock, NC (50528615781).jpg | Operating from 1919 until the early 1940s, the White Rock Hospital had 20 beds and served the rural Laurel Township section of Madison County. Though the hospital’s services were in demand enough to justify its existence, the onset of the Great Depression led to the Presbyterian Church ending its sponsorship, dooming the hospital, due to similar factors that led to the closure of the nearby Dorland-Bell Institute in Hot Springs, North Carolina. The building was still mostly standing as of a decade before these photos were taken in 2020, but has since almost entirely collapsed. The chimneys and only a few segments of exterior walls up to the first floor are all that remain standing, and the ruins are very overgrown. |
