| Description |
English: Old Well Head and Drinking Fountain, Penicuik This well head and drinking fountain in Penicuik High Street was donated to the town by Alexander Cowan in 1864. It replaced the old well installed by an earlier generation of Cowans in 1809. The new well took part of its water from the same spring but also from the "Sillerburn" (now Silver Burn) in the nearby Pentland Hills. Full details are given on a plaque on the back of the Fountain. |
