Summary

[edit]
Description
English: Old Soviet socket.
  • Nowadays those sockets became as the main reason of fires in former USSR countries. When old Soviet electric appliences fail due worn out by long using period, people buy new ones from European manufacturers. Modern European electric appliences differs from Soviet by their power (Soviet kettle used 150W, but modern European kettles have at least 2000W). By incresing power also increses Amperage. By increasing Amperage, also increases wire heating. Electrical wiring in Soviet houses were designed for 6 Amperes, but nowadays people loading it by 20 or 30 Amperes by modern European home appliences. As rule, nobody replaces electrical wiring in their homes for using more powerful home appliences to avoid high-cost wall breaking for installing new cables between fuse boxe and outlet. As usual it causes fires. Probably, national safety boards in former Soviet countries know about this problem, but lie to avoid unnecessary expenses by replacing electrical wiring in old homes. Also, only few homeowners from 1500000 have money to relace wiring in their homes. That is why they close their eyes by people, who connect their 16A home applinces to outdated 6A outlets.
