Description
English: Corner of King and Temperance Streets, with the market square running north to Church Street. Old fire hall is at the north end, and across from it on Church Street, the Alma Hotel where the Bell Telephone office now stands. Town Hall was built around 1856. Occupying stores in the building are Young & Cawker, P. Trebilcock, Stott & Jury. As the telephone came in 1880 and the Alma Hotel burned down in 1888, this photo comes somewhere between these dates. Current day site of the Bank of Montreal branch.
