| Description |
English: Old Railway Station at Budge Budge in South 24 Pargana district. The station is abandoned and not in use at present. However, it is famous because of Swami Vivekananda.
After finishing his lecture at Parliament of the World’s Religions in Chicago, U.S.A, Swami Vivekananda left America on 15th April 1896. He travelled across Europe visiting many countries. Ultimately, he reached Ceylon on 15th January 1897 and later proceeded to Madras (presently Chennai) Swami Vivekananda reached Budge Budge on 19th February 1897 on a steamer from Madras. He had reached the night before at Budge Budge and had to wait as the train to Kolkata was scheduled next morning. A plaque can be seen in the station premises describing the fact. |
