Summary

[edit]
Description The old Hines Bridge, built in 1966 and known as the Essex–Merrimack Drawbridge until about 2006, with its gates/barricades pivoted out across the roadway to stop traffic just before an opening of the swing span for river traffic. This bridge closed permanently to traffic in November 2010 and was replaced in 2011–12 by a new, wider bridge, incorporating a two-part swing span.
