| Description |
English: Old Flax Kiln "This flax kiln is set into the slope of the ground a short distance W of the public road on the S of the gully cut by an unnamed burn that runs from Elrig Loch to the river Avon. The kiln comprises a stone walled structure with a brick-arched firing chamber set into the slope below it. The kiln is depicted on the 1st edition of the OS 6-inch map, but had been abandoned by the time of the 2nd edition map (Stirlingshire 1864 and 1899, sheet xxxv). A map of the coal workings at Shieldhill in 1783 (SRO RHP 1550) shows a 'kill' on the opposite side of the road from this site."
