The same were provided for French wine, and still more solidvarieties also ordered, all probably for use in ordinaries. The beer tumblers arerepetitions of those for wine (Plate 30). Among the sundry glass vessels depicted by Greene the covered pots forbeer or wine, porringers or posnets, in two sizes, with ears or handles, are mostconspicuous. They were necessary concessions to the English taste in the daysof the Merry Monarch with the sardonic countenance, and their capacity musthave sorely puzzled the abstemious Venetians.
