Summary

[edit]
Description
English: Looking southwest from Meigs Avenue at the Old Chapel at Arlington National Cemetery in Arlington, Virginia, in the United States. It was originally built some time between 1818 and 1820 by George Washington Parke Custis and his wife, Mary, as a schoolhouse for their slaves. But when they could find no one willing to teach black slaves to read and write, the Custises had it converted into a chapel. It was originally known as the "Chapel of Ease of Arlington Plantation."
