Summary
[edit]DescriptionOld Burlington, Church Street, Chiswick - geograph.org.uk - 835136.jpg |
English: Old Burlington, Church Street, Chiswick. This is one of two former public houses at the gates of Fuller's Brewery. The other is on this site at 473519 and is only a few feet away on the other side of the brewery entrance. Both were owned by the brewery.
Fuller's Brewery was founded as the Lamb Brewery and was certainly in business in 1790 when the brewers were John Sich and William Thrale. The firm expanded and in 1920 was taken over by the Isleworth Brewery Co. which soon became part of Watney, Coombe, Reid & Co. The building in the photograph, now known as Old Burlington was formerly the Burlington Arms, while the other pub was the Lamb Tap, now Lamb Cottage. The locals certainly had a convenient choice of places to drink. The Lamb Tap closed in 1920, and the Burlington Arms in 1923.(1) 1.
