| Description |
English: Old Blue Coat school, 2008 Grade II* listed, the Blue Coat school buildings were designed by James Murray and constructed in 1856-57. They now house Holy Trinity church centre. In the foreground is the excavated nave area of Coventry's first cathedral, destroyed after the Dissolution.
On the right is the rear of New Buildings which date from about 1849-50 and housed looms un the upper floors which were rented out to independent weavers. The upper multi-paned windows designed for maximum light were characteristic of weavers' establishments. The weaving trade collapsed in 1860 and the building was later used by a 'ragged school' and as a drill hall. After several years as a store it lay empty during the 1990s and was restored during 2001-3 and converted to flats and a restaurant. |
