Rear View of Ellis Hall The presence of the State Normal College,as a co-ordinate department of college or OhioUniversity emphasizes the need, at Athens, ofa Preparatory School. Were graduation froma high school of the first grade made a re-quirement for sudh admission to the NormalCollege the usefulness of that institutionwould be greatly limited. All degree coursesof the Normal College cover four years workbeyond and higher than that completed in thefirst grade high school. Surely this standardis advanced enough. Were it made the onlyone for admission, not more than one-third ofthe public school teachers of Ohio could enterthe State Normal College as students. Thisis a condition, not a theory.
