importance, but form valu-able guides in the identification of the strata, and afford import-ant clues to the position of the Pittsburg, Freeport, and other coalseams. The Conemaugh Series is exposed through the northern por-tion of the Pan Handle area, but outside of the Kings creek areait is impossible to secure complete sections, since the Pittsburgcoal only extends north to the hills south of this creek, and theUpper Freeport coal does not outcrop south of this stream. TheKings creek section at Osburns Mill is given in the introductoryportion of Part II of this report and shows a total thickness of465 feet for the Conemaugh Series in this area. A section of the Conemaugh was made at Wellsburg, Brookecounty, by combining the hill section with the record of the old<:oal shaft sunk to the Roger or Lower Freeport coal in the Alle-gheny series. This shaft record has been furnished by Mr. J. C.Cram, who was superintendent of the mine, and one of the oldcoal operators of this county.
