Greatfiles and other office furniture are shown, typewriters,adding machines and all the kindred articles that serveto make the furnishing of an office up-to-date. The ex-hibits showing the manufacture of cloths, threads andcommodities used in tailoring and haberdashery are allgrouped conveniently on the east side of the building.A number of manufacturers have erected large machines,showing the various stages of manufacture. A splendiddisplay of American manufactured musical instrumentsis shown in the Musical section. An enterprising stovemanufacturer offers a large and instructive exhibit show-ing the manner in which the family range is made. Alarge space is devoted to fine furniture and its manufac-ture. Jewelry is well represented. The exhibits in thisbuilding represent the entire participation in the Centen-nial by American manufacturers. 18

jll OST original of all the exposition buildings isthe Forestry structure. It is distinctly aWestern building and represents one of Ore-gons greatest industries. Constructed entirely of hugelogs, it is exceedingly picturesque, with its crude facades and roughly hewn embellishments. Miles of logs, more than six feet inForestry Building diameter, and tons of shakes and________^_____ shingles were required for the construc-tion of this unique structure. As to itsinterior, the Forestry building is inspiring. More thanfifty great tree columns, veterans of a virgin forest, sup-port the rafters. These range from six feet to eight feetin diameter and are fully sixty feet tall. The interior ofthe building is as crudely finished as the exterior. Hereand there rustic stairways lead to the second and thirdfloors. From the balconies great doors open upon at-tractive porticoes. The building is the most originalarchitectural creation ever offered to public view and isin many .respects the most inter
