ion ofChicago will have charge during August, September and October. The following reports from these two associations define their work. FROEBEL KINDERGARTEN ASSOCIATION. Through the liberality of the Illinois Womans ExpositionBoard and its appreciation of the educational value of a living-kindergarten exhibit, the way was opened to the kindergartenassociations of Chicago to undertake and carry forward this en-terprise. The Froebel Association being responsible for the firstthree months, or until August first; and the Free KindergartenAssociation for the last three. The ladies of the Illinois board hav-ing pledged themselves to the kindergarten immediately began thetask of making full provisions for its successful conduct, appro-priating for its use the very choicest portion of the spaceallotted to them, a grand room on the first floor, sixty feet inlength and thirty feet in width, lighted by nine large windows, six looking toward the east and three toward the south. With the luxuriant wild roses clamber-ing over their rustic trellis in the artistic frieze above, and thehappy, active children playing their simple games, assiduouslydevoted to their varied occupations, or singing their merry songsin the circle below with the warm sunlight streaming in over theferns and flowers of the window boxes and illuminating thecarefully chosen pictures upon the walls, the visitor has beforehim a living exhibit of that paradise of children which grandold Friedrich Froebel, by the devotion of a lifetime, developedin the kindergarten.
