Svenska: Illustration från sidan 200 i Wärend och Wirdarne (1863) av Gunnar Olof Hyltén-Cavallius. Bildtext: "Offerställe, kalladt Kapellet, vid Espedal, i Alems socken, Kalmar län. 1634." Ur boken: "Samtidigt fanns vid Espedal, i samma socken, ännu en öppen stensättning, som af folket kallades kapellet. Midt i denna stensättning var en stenlagd fyrkant, antingen såsom altare eller såsom fotställning för det förstörda bönekorset. Der ofvan, åt norr, var muren lagd i halfrundel, och nedantill, åt söder, såsom en framtill öppen fyrkant. Ingångs-öppningarne voro å ömse sidor i öster och vester. Enligt folkets berättelse hade här fordom varit Kapell, så att »förrän kyrkan gjordes, hafva de gått dit och predikat. I fejde-tiden har man ock derstädes begrafvit folk»."
