English: Reverse of a Russian unpaid stampless folded letter Odessa to Genoa. 'ODESSA 11. DEC: 1842' cancel, manuscript '21' lira rate (Austro-Italian postage), oval red 'LT' and red arrival '9. GEN.io' handstamp.

Details:

  • December 11(Julian)/ December 23 1842 (Gregorian) letter posted at Odessa. Post office placed 'ODESSA' boxed postmark.
Dobin: Odessa 57.1.01 type 1.03, 42x14mm. Postmark for transit mail, used 1840-1850, Rarity 4.[1]
  • Red oval handstamp 'LT' placed, meaning Letter Transit.
  • Notation '21' lira rate assessed.
  • Notation '6L' credits 6 lira to Austria.
  • January 9. '9. GEN.io' (9 Gennario) receiver backstamp at Genoa.
