Description

Verhalen

Zoiets heeft u nog niet eerder gehoord. Saxofonist Oded Tzur, die in New York gevestigd is, vertelt verhalen met zijn saxofoon. Hij gebruikt daarvoor oude Oosterse technieken die hij leerde van Indiase grootmeesters en nieuwe jazztechnieken die hij in de jazz-scene van Tel Aviv en in de VS leerde. Zijn muziek beweegt zich tussen zeer stille passages en uitbundige ontladingen. Inmiddels wordt zijn techniek door saxofonisten over de hele wereld gebruikt. Hij geeft er lezingen over bij muziekopleidingen en beroemde instituten. Wie er meer over wil weten raden we aan eens te zoeken op Youtube waar hij prachtig vertelt over verhalen en muziek.

Oded Tzur Quartet

In 2011 begon hij het Oded Tzur Quartet met naast zichzelf op saxofoon, Nitai Hershkovits op piano, Petros Klampanis op bas en Johnathan Blake op drums. Sinds de oprichting van dit kwartet heeft het op vele podiums in de wereld gestaan. De drie albums, ‘Like a Great River’, ‘Translator’s Note’ (Enja Records) en ‘Here Be Dragons’ (ECM Records) kregen buitengewone lovende kritieken en vestigden Tzur als een unieke stem in de hedendaagse jazzscene. De band wordt door kenners wel "The Coltrane Quartet of the 21st Century" genoemd.
