Español: OCTANTE o el cuadrante de reflexión.

Constelación del Hemisferio: SUR.

El Octante es un instrumento astronómico usado para medir alturas de objetos celestes (Luna, Sol, estrellas, planetas, etc.) desde el horizonte y similar al sextante. Fue creado por John Hadley en 1731 y consta de una alidada graduada de 45º, es decir un octavo del círculo, de ahí su nombre Octante (ocho partes de 360º).

En la constelación austral de OCTANS, o el Octante, se encuentra la estrella polar del hemisfrio Sur celeste llamada SIGMA OCTANS aunque demasiado apartada del mismo para ser tal punto de referencia, a 1º 2’ 27” (12/2011). PSC = Polo Sur Celeste.
