p. 136 LING 137 Meek concludes that after spawning they migrate from theNorth Sea to the Atlantic during the summer, return in thespring, and go back to deep water in autumn to assemble forthe next spawning migration . The Blue Ling eggs have never been found ; but Schmidthas had fry over great depths off Iceland, the Faeroes, andAvest of Scotland ; he beheves that it spawns at 250 to 500fathoms. The fry are very small—0-23 to 0-27 inch. But theygrow to 3 inches, and are found still floating at the surfaceat this size. Dannevig has also found fry in the Norwegianfjords. The Southern Ling fry have been caught by Schmidt nearthe surface over depths of 500 to 1,000 fathoms south-west ofIreland and in the Bay of Biscay.
