Description

Right elevation diagram of Elswick Ordnance 8-inch 40 calibre gun in armoured gunhouse for Chilean cruiser General O'Higgins.
The gunhouse armour is 8 inches in front and 5 inches at the sides and rear. The trunk for supply of cartridges is also protected with 5 inches of armour.


Cartridges come up the central trunk, powered by a hydraulic motor. A ready supply of shells is held in the gunhouse, more can be brought up via the trunk.
