English: Nwy i Bwllheli - Gas to Pwllheli This plaque on the harbour side of Ffordd y Cob marks the linking of Pwllheli to the national gas network in 1962.
It reads (in English and Welsh): This extension of the North Wales Gas Grid to Pwllheli was here marked by The Right Honourable The Lord Shawcross, Q.C. on 24 May 1962 Gas - a power harnessed by man Yma y nodwyd estyniad Grid Nwy Gogledd Cymru i Bwllheli gan Y Gwir Anrhydeddus Arglwydd Shawcross, Q.C. Mai 24 1962 Nwy tan harnais dyfais dyn Cynan Lord Shawcross was Hartley Shawcross, Nuremberg War Trials prosecutor and one of the UK's first life peers Hartley_Shawcross The line beneath the inscriptions was composed by the famous local bard Cynan http://yba.llgc.org.uk/en/s2-JONE-EVA-1895.html It must be one of his shortest, and least memorable compositions. |
