Summary
[edit]DescriptionNunney Castle - 49049483183.jpg |
English: Nunney Castle, 10 November 2019. Built late 14th Century by Sir John Delamare from profits he made plundering in France in the Hundred Years War. It was ostensibly built on the French pattern of a moated central keep with four corner towers and has characteristics of the Bastille. It was remodelled in the 16th Century to be more of a fortified home of the Catholic, Royalist Prater family. It was damaged and taken by the Roundheads under Oliver Cromwell and Lord Fairfax in 1645 during the English Civil War. |
