Description

In 1843, at the request of Bishop William Walsh, 2000 men gathered at St. Mary's Cathedral Basilica and proceeded to clear the area for the chapel and cemetery. A month later, on August 31, the same crew gathered to build Our Lady Of Sorrows Chapel in a single day.

The chapel has seats for 70 people, and has a large stained glass window dating from 1661. Woodcarvings in the chapel were taken from a Flemish church of 1550. Mass is still celebrated at the chapel once a year by a priest from St. Mary's Cathedral Basilica.
