antes, au nezferme et à la bouche volontaire, aux cheveux noirs, lisses et drus recou-vrant le front bas, déprimé par la courroie de leurs fardeaux; ils ne gri-sonnent jamais3 et gardent jusque dans un âge avancé leurs dents duneblancheur éclatante, toujours bien rangées, et leur solide musculature,que la graisse ne recouvre point ; ce sont dinfatigables marcheurs, aupied élégamment cambré, au mollet proéminent. On voit journellementdes femmes aller au marché portant un poids de 40 à 50 kilogrammessur la tête, avec un nourrisson sur la hanche, et fournissant leurssix kilomètres à lheure. Les Indiens des plateaux ont en général leteint plus foncé que celui des naturels de la terre chaude.
