I think this Mafersa 1700-Series (formerly known as 700-Series) is the only 'sizable' fleet that remains from the old days when the Federal state owned and operated the rail network in the Country. This series in particular were originally projected and constructed to be used in Rio de Janeiro, where it is still used and knonw as 700-Series. It's not as old as it looks though, being built in 1987, this 'old-school' design is a result of low investment and reuse of old projects and technology rather than the age itself, but it's a solid project well suited to the poor quality of the railways in both RJ and SP back then and now, as this train is well known for its reliability and dependability, often topping the MKBF charts even in these days...
