Português: Notícia 'da transferência da documentação da Câmara do Funchal para o Arquivo Distrital'. Documentação histórica até 1880 sob direção e coordenação de João Cabral do Nascimento (1897-1978). João Cabral do Nascimento (Funchal, 22 mar. 1897; Lisboa, 2 mar. 1978). Filho de João Crawford do Nascimento e de D. Palmira Alice de Meneses Cabral, foi poeta, colaborador de importantes jornais e revistas da sua época, investigador da história dos princípios do povoamento das ilhas da Madeira e dos Açores, tal como também professor. Frequentou a Faculdade de Direito de Lisboa e de Coimbra (1915; 1922) e ainda estudante, foi um dos fundadores da revista Ícaro (1919-1920) e redator no jornal Restauração (1922), ligado ao movimento integralista de António Sardinha (1888-1925). Em 1923, já no Funchal, onde se casara com Maria Franco (1908-1975), sobrinha de Henrique (1883-1961) e Francisco Franco (1885-1955), lecionou na Escola Industrial e Comercial e, em 1931, dirigiu a revista Arquivo Histórico da Madeira e assumiu a montagem do Arquivo Distrital do Funchal, de cuja revista foi diretor até 1954. Em 1937, entretanto, fixara residência em Lisboa e lecionou nas escolas Ferreira Borges e Veiga Beirão até se aposentar, em 1958. Muitas vezes sob o pseudónimo Mário Gonçalves, e outros, traduziu para português vários nomes importantes da literatura inglesa, norte-americana e francesa. |
