Description

c/n 17623, l/n 78. Built 1959 and delivered to SABENA as OO-SJA. From 1974 she spent time leased to Air Algerie, Mandala Airlines and finally Cameroon Airlines, before returning to Belgium with Sobelair in 1978. Her flying career ended on 29th March 1981 when the No3 engine exploded on climb out from Brussels Airport. She was written off when she ran off the runway during the subsequent emergency landing, although all 117 passengers and crew were safe. The nose was preserved and is now on display at what is known as the Brussels Air Museum, although it is actually the Air and Space Section of the Royal Museum of the Armed Forces and Military History.
