¨re, au pieddu quai Sud, a 276 mètres de longueur sur 27 mètresde largeur au plafond, et est creusée à la cote(â 7 m. 70) ; la seconde, au pied du quai Nord, a246 mètres de longueur sur 27 mètres de largeur, etest creusée à la cote (â 5 m.). La surface du bassinest de 6 hectares ^o. Il a reçu des navires de 12.000 ton-neaux de jauge brute et de 168 m. 5o de longueur. Le nouvel avant-port qui le précède donne sur lechenal et lancien avant-port. Le bassin Loubet souvresur le nouvel avant-port par une passe de 65 mètresde largeur, aménagée au milieu dune traverse enmaçonnerie. Au Sud, un terre-plein limite le bassin,à lOuest un appontement en béton armé, au Nordun mur de pied surmonté dun appontement égale-ment en béton armé. Au Nord-Ouest, la protectioncontre les vents dominants est assurée par un ouvrageque lon appelle la digue du large. Cette digue sétend de la traverse du port en eauprofonde à la jetée Sud-Ouest, sur 696 m. 76 de Ion- BOULOGNE-SUR-MER 93

94 NOS TROIS PORTS DU NORD gueur. Elle est arasée à la cote (22 m. 5o), et forméedun massif de sable revêtu, du côté de la mer, dunperré maçonné, appuyé sur des enrochements, et sur-monté lui-même dun revêtement en béton. Au-des-sus, une couche de terre grasse recouvre la digue. Salargeur, de 10 mètres au sommet, est portée à 4o mè-tres en son milieu, pour létablissement, le caséchéant, dune batterie de côte. La construction de lappontement Ouest du bassinLoubet devait être, daprès les plans primitifs, un murplein. Mais on modifia le projet, pour ménager la pos-sibilité de prolonger ultérieurement le bassin Lou-bet vers lOuest. Les terre-pleins qui lentourent sont entièrementpavés ou empierrés. Leur largeur varie de 5o à 126 mè-tres, et ils offrent une superficie totale denviron10 hectares. Ils sont parcourus de voies ferrées et cou-verts de hangars.
