Summary

[edit]
Description
English: The Norton Building, 206 3rd Ave S, designed by Josenhans & Allan, was built in early 1904 for the Homer F. Norton Leather Co. by the Trustee Company, an investment banking firm that had been formed the previous year by prominent Seattle businessmen Norval H. Latimer, Edmund Bowden, William D. Wood and Arthur L. Hawley. In anticipation of construction of the new tunnel and Union Station, they had purchased the entire half-block between Main and Washington Streets with intentions of developing wholesale space book-ended by hotels, though the planned centerpiece of the development, an 8 story steel frame hotel at the Northeast corner of Main & Washington, was never completed above the second floor. The same builder and architectural firm were responsible for the Trustee building to the south, constructed later the same year.
