Description Looking northward along Main Street from the corner of Seneca Street in downtown Buffalo, New York. The original source indicates the photo was taken "prior to 1894"; a further clue to the date is provided by the presence of signage for the Elsheimer & Oehler Sign Company, which was in operation at 246 Main Street beginning in 1892. Of those seen here, only the Barnes & Hengerer Building (left side of the street; center of photo) remains in existence today; those immediately to its south (left/foreground) are now the site of the Merchants Mutual Building, with surface parking lots on either side.
