| Description |
English: Inside the nave of the parish church of St John the Baptist, Northorpe, Lindsey, Lincolnshire, looking east to the chancel. The church dates from Norman times, and has impressive Norman three bay arcades with round piers and varieties of scallop in the capitals. The arches are round.
The nave was extended early in the 13th century. There is a western tower and clerestory, both of which were added in the 16th century. The roof and roof bosses date from the same period. Some were later replaced. The chancel dates from the late 13th century, but the east window is perpendicular. There are remains of two 15th century incised slabs, and in the chancel there are several brasses. The pulpit dates from the 18th century, and once had a sounding board. The church was restored in the early part of the 20th century when it had become dilapidated. There is a small two manual organ which is still in use, and several stained glass windows. |
