[edit]DescriptionNorthern Scandanavia (MODIS 2017-03-12).jpg |
English: Snow dusted Northern Scandinavia in early March 2017, creating a stunning tableau when viewed from space. The Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) aboard NASA’s Aqua satellite acquired a true-color image of the scene on March 2.
Sea ice and cloud cover the inky blue waters of the Norwegian Sea (northwest) and the Barents Sea (northeast). Ice also fills most of the northern Gulf of Bothnia. Cloud – possibly carrying snow – fills the south central part of the image. Black borderlines have been added to the image to delineate political boundaries. From west to east the countries are Norway, Sweden, Finland, and northwestern Russia. |
