(Zhao et al., 2017; Scott, Eggleton, 1973).
English: North edge of Mons Rümker on the Moon, in Oceanus Procellarum. The largest crater (4.3 km) is Rümker C. Its irregular shape and elevated southwestern edge imply that it was created by oblique impact from northeast. Surrounding relief is smoothed, but with elongated depressions pointing to northeast. Probably, the depressions and the crater were formed by ejecta from Sinus Iridum basin approximately 3.7 billion years ago (Zhao et al., 2017; Scott, Eggleton, 1973).
In the upper part of the image this relief was covered by marine lava, and in the lower part it was destroyed by volcanic activity of Mons Rümker. One of its volcanic domes is seen in the lower right. Its width is about 4 km and height is 90 m: one of the smallest domes of Mons Rümker (Zhao et al., 2017). Photo by Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter, made with Narrow Angle Camera on 3 June 2012 from altitude 157 km. Sun elevation is 11.8°. Width of the photo is 15.4 km, north is approximately up. |
