Montereau (Buffet; Hot. du Grcnd-Mcnargue; de laCroix-Verte, R. 3-5, pens. 91/2 fr.; du Cheval-BJanc; deL^on, nearthe station; Cafe des Oiseaucc), an ancient and industrial town with8213 inhab., at the confluence of the Yovne and the Seine. IheChurch, near the end of the Grande-Rue, is a fine building withdouble aisles, dating from tie 13-15lh cent., with a portal completedduring the Renaissance period. The interior contains some interest-ing clustered columns and feme fine canopied niches (outer N. aisle^The neighbouring bridge, on which is an inscription, vtas in 141cthe scene of the assassination of Jean sans Peur, Duke of Fuigundyby the partisans of the Dauphin, afterwards Charles ^II.
