Summary

[edit]
Description

Northern Constabulary Community Pipe Band was delighted to assist our Emergency Services Colleagues at RNLI (Royal National Lifeboat Institution) North Kessock, on the Black Isle directly opposite Inverness, today Saturday 7th June 2014.

The Lifeboat Station is located directly under the north end of the Kessock Bridge.

RNLI Kessock has recently been allocated a new, larger, boat (Atlantic 85 class) and today she would be officially named. A large number of guests were invited to Kessock Lifeboat Station to attend the ceremony of the official handing over and naming of “The Robert and Isobel Mowat”.

Although the day dawned with a bank of haar (sea fog) over the Moray Firth, thankfully it soon burned off and the morning turned out sunny and warm. Pipe Major Kenny Watson, six more pipers and three drummers entertained the assembled invited audience (and members of the public) with a varied selection of tunes until it was time for the Ceremony to commence. After the boat had been intruded, handed over, and accepted, it was blessed by Rev. James Munro. Following the naming ceremony, the boat was propelled down the Launch ramp by the Station Tractor, as the Pipe Band played (NOT down the Launch ramp!).

The weather remained on best behaviour throughout the ceremony and although the Band found it rather warmer than they would have liked for playing, it was at least far better than bucketing rain! A great day, and am memorable one, and Northern Constabulary Community Pipe Band is proud to have been able to assist and support the Lifeboat and its volunteer crew, who venture out into the Moray Firth and River Ness in all weathers to carry out rescues and searches.

Note: The RNLI is entirely funded from public donations – see rnli.org
