The Church of St Peter is located in the village of Northney, Hayling Island in Hampshire, and was originally built in 1140 by the monks of Jumièges Abbey as a chapel of ease. It was expanded to its present dimensions in the 13th century. On the south and southeast buttresses are sundials, originally used as mass clocks to determine the time for mass, and on the southeast buttress there is a pentagon, a symbol of the five wounds Jesus suffered on the cross.
