Summary
[edit]DescriptionNorth side of 3300 block of Olive Street, between Channing (Josephine Baker Boulevard) and Leonard Avenue.jpg |
English: North side of 3300 block of Olive Street. A chauffeur-driven automobile rests in front of businesses located at 3331-3333 Olive Street, between Channing (Josephine Baker Boulevard) and Leonard Avenue. A saloon and a store that sold medical books and instruments are pictured.
Midtown became a major medical district after many hospitals were built in the area between 1871 and 1899. Several medical schools were also erected nearby. Many physicians relocated their families to homes in the area to be near the hospitals at which they worked and the streetcar lines they used to make house calls.
