| Description |
English: (1 in a multiple picture set) You need to drive up a mountain (dormant volcano) to see Crater Lake. The water of Crater Lake IS that blue. It is over 1900 feet deep, and all the water is runoff from snow. No streams run in or out of it. The deep blue comes from the depth. Sunlight is able to penetrate deep into the water. The depth absorbs many of the longer rays and reflecting the shorter rays of the white light spectrum. Red light is the longest wavelength, thus gets absorbed. Violet and blue light are the shortest wavelengths, thus get scattered and reflected back to us, causing the lake to be its famous Crater Lake blue. |
