[edit]DescriptionNorth Parade and The Old Rectifying House - geograph.org.uk - 889040.jpg |
English: North Parade and The Old Rectifying House View from the river to the east bank just upstream from the bridge. The street behind the wall is North Parade, one of the busiest in Worcester, but from this angle the traffic is hardly visible. To the right, the old warehouses have been converted into expensive riverside flats. The building on the left is The Old Rectifying House, a trendy bar and eating place. The rear of the building used to be part of the distillery, hence the name. The main part of the distillery was across the river at Tybridge Street. In the 18th century it was owned by John Williams and was one of the most important in the Midlands. In those days the inn was flooded most years and provisions were supplied by boat by way of the upstairs windows. The lower floor bar, which is below street level, is still regularly flooded today, but the stone floors are easily cleaned.
